ABOUT WALDIR PERES
Soccer player distinguished for his position as a goalkeeper on the São Paulo Futebol Clube, as well as the Brazilian national team, the latter of which he played with in three separate World Cup events. After retiring from playing on the field, he enjoyed a successful managerial career for over 20 years and headed leagues such as União Mogi, Itabaiana, and the Rio Branco Sport Club.
He commenced his professional career in 1970, playing for the Ponte Preta football club for three years before joining the São Paulo team. He would remain a member of the latter for over 10 years.
He's earned numerous accolades on a club level including the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, and several Campeonato Paulista titles while playing for São Paulo. He also earned a Campeonato Pernambucano title with his teammates on the Santa Cruz Futebol Clube. Some of his individual awards include the Brazilian Silver Ball and the Brazilian Golden Ball, both of which he earned in 1975.
He was the son of father Edil Ferraz Arruda and mother Emília Peres Arruda. His daughter, Erika Peres, was also a professional soccer player.
Some of his teammates on the Brazil squad during the 1982 FIFA World Cup included rapper.html">Zico and Leovegildo Lins da Gama Júnior .
