ABOUT VUK DRASKOVIC
Serbian nationalist politician and writer known for having served as both Deputy Prime Minister and then Minister of Foreign Affairs. He is leader of the Serbian Renewal Movement, a liberal, monarchist-based political party.
He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a law degree from the University of Belgrade. He was a communist hardliner under the U.S.S.R.'s control of former Yugoslavia. He was the Chief of Staff for pro-Soviet Yugoslav President Mika Špiljak's regime.
He went from Soviet communist enabler to warning with his written words about the dangers of blind authoritarianism later in his life. He was banned from the Communist Party for writing a series of novels that thinly critiqued Soviet repression.
He met his wife, Danica, in the streets while they were protesting in 1968.
He was the natural political opposite of Slobodan Milosevic who was pro-Western and anti-Soviet.
