ABOUT STEVE O'SHEA

Marine biologist, scientist, writer, author, and environmentalist who is best known for his research regarding animals such as the giant squid. He is the author of the book, "The marine fauna of New Zealand." He has published more than 40 papers on squid, octopus, whales, fisheries, and conservation.

He graduated with an M.Sc. in the year 1990. In the year 1999, he graduated from The University of Auckland with a PhD in Marine Biology.

In the year 2005, he became the Director of the Earth and Oceanic Sciences Research Institute at the Auckland University of Technology.

He was also a Discovery Channel Quest Scholar. O'Shea has appeared in over 13 documentaries on squid, whales and the oceans.

He was born in Auckland, New Zealand.

He and Ernest Rutherford are both scientists from New Zealand.
