ABOUT RIFAAT GARRANA

Classical music composer and a member of Egypt's second generation of classical musicians. He was the first composer to marry the qanun instrument with symphony orchestra.

He took up playing the trumpet at the age of 12. He was taught by the notable Hans Hickmann in Cairo.

He worked as director of the music division of Egyptian television.

His daughter Maha Garrana was a professional flutist.

He became a prominent musician in Egypt just before Demis Roussos stepped into the scene.
