ABOUT QUINCY PORTER

1954 Pulitzer Prize winner for his "Concerto Concertante." He experimented with harmonically acerbic and dissonant music.

He attended Yale University, where he was taught by such notables as Horatio Parker and David Stanley Smith.

He wrote nine string quartets from 1923 until 1953, as well as two symphonies and numerous concertos.

His family was residing in New Haven when he was born. He was married to his wife Lois until his death.

He founded the American Music Center with Aaron Copland .
