Paulo Miyao

ABOUT PAULO MIYAO

Professional Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) competitor with an impressive record of wins. He has gained a following of over 500,000 on his Instagram, paulomiyao, for posting videos of his competitions. He is known for fighting alongside his brother, rapper.html">João Miyao .

He has been competing in BJJ- a self-defense martial art and combat sport based on grappling, ground fighting, and submission holds- since 2012 when he won his first black belt tournament while still a brown belt at the ADCC tryouts in Natal, Brazil. He was promoted to black belt on June 25, 2013.

After taking a break from competition to focus on coaching, he returned in 2022 when he was invited to compete in a super fight against Alexandre Vieira at BJJ Stars 9 on October 21, 2022. He won the fight early on. He announced in March 2023 that he would be opening his own academy, Studio 1908, with his brother João Miyao .

He married fellow Brazilian jiu-jitsu athlete Gabi Pires on June 28, 2024.

He had a competitive rivalry with Keenan Cornelius after several defeats in 2012. He went on to defeat Keenan at the 2013 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in the brown belt absolute division.
