ABOUT NOMAR GARCIAPARRA
1997 American League Rookie of the Year with the Boston Red Sox who became a 6-time All-Star shortstop.
He played college baseball at Georgia Tech and helped take the team to the 1994 College World Series title game, but they were defeated by Oklahoma.
In 1999, he became one of only a small handful of players to hit two grand slams in one game.
He had twin girls and a son with World Cup soccer star Mia Hamm .
He and catcher Jason Varitek were teammates in college at Georgia Tech and in the MLB with the Red Sox.
