A key figure in South Africa's anti-apartheid movement who helped form the United Democratic Front in 1983.
He joined the South African Student’s Movement in 1972.
He spent 3 years in prison for his role in the Soweto Uprising of June 1976.
He has been married and has two children.
He served his prison term in the company of South African political prisoner Nelson Mandela .
