ABOUT MICHAEL HEAD

English singer, organist, pianist, and composer remembered primarily for his songs for solo voice and chorus. He had a lengthy association with the Royal Academy of Music.

He published his first musical work, a song cycle called Over the Rim of the Moon, while he was working for an ammunition manufacturer during World War I.

He became famous following a 1929 solo vocal concert at Wigmore Hall in London.

He grew up in Eastbourne, East Sussex, England as the son of a musician and a journalist.

He set the poems of W.H. Davies to music in a piece called Songs of the Countryside.
