Second born son and child of international soccer superstar Lionel Messi and Antonella Roccuzzo . He began playing soccer himself at a young age and there were viral videos of him dribbling around defenders by the time he was 7 years old.

Lionel's brother Matias broke the news of the arrival of Mateo via Twitter. His mother shared a photo of him gripping her finger via Instagram the day after his birth.

His father returned from the US to Spain to be with him when he was born.

His parents have known each other since they were five years old.

He has brothers named Thiago and Ciro .
