Known for Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo and Rain Rain Go Away. He had an extensive career in film, especially for Disney, and television.
He attended Cornell University and St. John's University Law School.
He was nominated for eight Academy Awards for songs that he composed for film. He unfortunately never won an Oscar.
His brother Hal David also became a famed lyricist and songwriter.
He sued Jerry Herman for copyright infringement over his alleged use of the same melody line from his 1948 hit Sunflower for Herman's Hello, Dolly! theme. They settled out of court.
