Inventor of the Cinematographe, the first film projector. He produced the film Jumping the Blanket from 1895.
He was the brother of Auguste with whom he attended La Martiniere, a technical school.
He was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
He had two children with his wife Rose Winckler.
He was a contemporary of Thomas Edison .
