He already had an important teaching post at a local college at just 30 years of age.

His invention made television and radio possible.

He came from a family of modest means and took up teaching on his father's advice because it was a reliable profession.

His ideas for radio were borrowed by Guglielmo Marconi for Marconi's research into radio. This was by Marconi's own admission.
