ABOUT JULIA BROWN

Scottish TV actress famous for her roles in M.I.High, Shetland, World on Fire, and The Alienist . In World on Fire, she played the role of Lois Bennett, a singer whose musical gifts play a role in World War II. Brown actually did sing all of her character's songs, which make up the majority of the show's soundtrack. When not acting, she works as a model as well.

She studied acting, singing, and dancing, at a musical theatre school called MGA. She made her acting debut in the kid's spy series M.I.High in 2014. The series won a Royal Television Society Award for Best Children's Drama in 2009. M.I.High ran for 88 episodes over the course of seven years.

In 2021, she was a contestant on the game show, Pointless Celebrities. To prepare for roles, she does research on the character's society in the given time period and what people going through the character's circumstances have shared about their life. She has claimed that playing Lois Bennett in World on Fire was the most difficult role she had played at the time, having to research what day-to-day life was like for people facing the challenges of World War II as well as preparing complex jazz pieces for recording.

To prepare for her role in World on Fire, she drew from stories she had heard from her grandfather about his experience fighting in World War II.

She and Douglas Henshall starred in Shetland.
