ABOUT JIMMY GILLMER
Songwriter famous for being the lead singer of the band The Fireballs from 1960-1969. In 1963, Jimmy Gilmer & the Fireballs had a number one hit with their song "Sugar Shack."
He grew up in Amarillo where he studied music at the Musical Arts Conservatory.
After leaving the Fireballs in 1969, he was hired by United Artists Music in Nashville. He became vice-president of CBS Songs' southern operations in the 1980s.
He was born in Chicago and raised in Amarillo.
His band's producer, Norman Petty, had previously worked with Buddy Holly .
