He is from Pasadena, California, and grew up in Indianapolis. He was his Lawrence Central High School basketball team's leading scorer during his senior year.

He was drafted in 2022 by the Minnesota Twins as the 19th overall pick. In 2020 he was MVC All-Newcomer Team and MVC All-Freshman Team.

His parents are Jeff and Becky LaRavia.

He has been teammates with Ja Morant , Steven Adams , and Tyus Jones while playing with Memphis.
