She graduated from UCLA with honors in sociology and worked as a model to pay off her student loans.

She was raised with an older sister named Kelly and a younger sister named Tracy. She married Chris Howard in May 2001, and the couple divorced in 2006. She then married NBA star wade.html">Dwyane Wade on August 30, 2014. She and Wade gave birth to a daughter named Kaavia in 2018. She's a first cousin to Saweetie 's father.

She starred as Isis alongside Kirsten Dunst in the 2000 comedy film Bring It On.
