Charles I of England

ABOUT CHARLES I OF ENGLAND

King of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1625 until 1649. He was known for his intense and harsh ruling, which caused many civil wars. He was executed on January 30, 1649 for defying the legality of the ruling court, making him the only king in England's history to be executed for treason.

He was born in Fife, Scotland. He was often quite sick as a child. He also struggled with a speech impediment, which caused him to stammer.

He was not first in line for the throne until his older brother Henry passed away.

His parents were James VI and Anne of Denmark. He married Henrietta Maria in 1625 and had nine children.

He was the grandson of Mary Queen of Scots .
