He received his bachelor's degree in microbiology from Indiana University Bloomington and an MBA from Michigan State University .

He worked for H.J. Heinz Company and J. Walter Thompson before joining Disney in 1993.

His parents were Marie and Bernard W. Chapek, His father fought in World War II. He married his wife, Cynthia, in 1993.

He and Bob Iger have both served as CEO of The Walt Disney Company.
