ABOUT BENGT GOTTFRIED FORSELIUS
Writer of the first Estonian ABC book and a key figure in the establishment of Estonian public education. He was also a late seventeenth-century reformer of the Estonian language.
He studied law at the University of Wittenberg and subsequently established a teachers' college in the town of Piiskopimoisa.
He founded a total of thirty-eight schools over the course of his short life.
His father, Johann Forselius, was a pastor and a Finnish-born Swede.
He was born in the same country as poet Ernst Enno .
