ABOUT ANDREW CHAN
Drug trafficker who received the sentence of execution by firing squad for his plot to smuggle heroin from Indonesia to Australia.
He grew up in a suburb of Sydney, Australia and worked for a catering company before becoming involved in drug trafficking.
He and the nine other Australian citizens who were arrested while attempting to smuggle four million dollars worth of heroin from Indonesia to Australia became known, collectively, as the Bali Nine. He and Myuran Sukumaran were the only two members of the group who were sentenced to death for their crimes, and they unsuccessfully appealed the sentence in 2011.
He met his girlfriend while serving his prison term in Indonesia (the two became acquainted while she was visiting another prisoner).
Pablo Escobar was another well known drug trafficker. Escobar died violently while fleeing police in Colombia.
